About Me

Who I Am?

My name is Maxime Laoun, I am currently 22 years old. I was born and raised in Montreal. My life has always been sports-centered.

Since my very first steps, I have played soccer, achieved diving and boxing classes, as well as some figure skating, which I quickly gave up because it was clearly not for me.

I played hockey at a competitive level until my Bantam AA year, when I ultimately had to give it up to focus on my two other sports, short track speed skating and golf. I began my golf career at the young age of one and half year old, when my father first showed me how to hit balls with small plastic clubs. He would bring me to practice every afternoon and that is where I developed a passion for the sport.

I graduated to my first real golf bag at the age of four and I started officially competing at the age of six. By the time I turned seven, my mother, who loved the sport and was once acclaimed as a great golfer, renouncedit after I surpassed her skill level. My sister, who was also involved in golf for her entire life, began to take the sport seriously two years ago. We now both share the privilege of being coached by Daniel Langevin.

My hard work and dedication began to pay off whenfive years ago, I won the Quebec Juvenile Championship. However, this coming year, I decided to concentrate more on my other passion, short track speed skating, my sights set on qualifying for the Olympics. I still currently have the chance to practice my golfing skills at the most prestigious golf course in Canada, The Royal Montreal, when I get a break from skating. So, if one day, I want to return to a competitive level in golf, which is what I expect, I will be able to.

In speed skating, I am currently a member of the Canadian National Team. We are training almost fourteen times a week at the Maurice Richard arena. I've qualified for the World Junior Championships three times. Two years ago, they were held in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria. My ultimate goal in short track is to represent Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in China and bring a gold medal home.

In the past years, I delivered some really good results. I finished top eight at the World Junior Championships and at the present time, I am ranked fourth in the world junior ranking in the 500meters. In Quebec, I won the overall of the four competitions we called “Circuit Élite”. In the national competitions, I finished at the ninth position in January and at the fifth position in March 2017. At the beginning of year 2018, I won my first international competition, the “Eco Cup”. I also finished fourth at the Senior Canadian Championship. Unfortunately, I was forced to end my season prematurely due to an ankle injury. However, the good news is that with these results, I gained my spot on the national team and I am privileged to train with the top fourteen best skaters in Canada. I am really eager to start the new season fresh and highly motivated.

Other than competitive sport, my passions involve a wide range of activities.I absolutely love to cook and prepare good meals. I was also recently introduced to fishing and it has quickly become an enjoyable hobby. An older fascination of mine is scuba diving, which I've been doing since the age of ten years old. Besides, over the next couple of months, I will become a certified Dive Master. The passion I cherish the most is being into the wild. I am fond of hiking and I love to do some wild camping; it’s the best way to disconnect from everything, while keeping myself in shape for when I come back to my sport.

Academically, I studied at the well renowned Jean-Eudes High School and I am currently accomplishing my Diploma of Collegial Studies at Collège André-Grasset, in the field of natural sciences. I'd like to pursue my studies in order to eventually become a medical doctor or an optometrist, so I could one day take over my father’s business (Antoine Laoun Opticien).

In summary, I am addicted to sports, I am a perseverant and determined person in every aspect of my life, as well as ambitious and disciplined. I take great pride in my accomplishments and the characteristicsthat have made me the person I am today, which have lead me to believe that I would be a great fit for this agency. I hope that we will both share that belief as you consider my application.
